The Amaanah Lions recently came together for a special community Iftar, bringing more than 50 players together to break their fast following an evening training session. The event was a powerful reminder that the Lions are about far more than football. They are about community, belonging, and supporting one another.

During Ramadan, many of the players observing the fast spend the day balancing school, family responsibilities, and their commitment to the team. Training while fasting requires discipline and determination, and the Iftar provided an opportunity for everyone to pause, reflect, and share a meal together once the sun had set.

As training finished and the call to break the fast arrived, players gathered to enjoy a simple meal together. Teammates who were fasting and those who were not sat side by side, sharing food, conversation, and laughter. Moments like these are an important part of what makes the Lions community special. The team reflects the diversity of Houston, and events like the Iftar allow players to learn from and support one another’s traditions.

For many of the younger players, it was also a chance to experience the spirit of Ramadan in a team environment. Coaches and volunteers helped organize the evening, ensuring that everyone could take part and feel included.

The Lions Iftar was not just about food. It was about connection. It showed how sport can bring people together and create spaces where young people feel seen, respected, and valued.

As the evening ended and players headed home, the message was clear: the Amaanah Lions are more than teammates. They are a family.
