The Amaanah Community Cup returned this year with its most successful tournament yet, bringing together players, families, supporters, and local organizations for a day that celebrated competition, community, and the mission of empowering young refugees in Houston. With more than a dozen teams participating, the tournament delivered incredible energy, standout performances, and a powerful show of support for Amaanah’s work.
One of the highlights of the day was the presence of Big Tex Injury Law, this year’s Lions shirt sponsor, whose team not only supported the event but went on to win the championship. Their involvement brought an added sense of commitment and community pride to the field.
“A day like this is about more than soccer,” said Amine Amrouni, Amaanah Lions Head Coach. “It’s about giving our players and our community a space where everyone feels welcome, valued, and connected. The atmosphere was incredible, and the support from partners like Big Tex Injury Law shows just how strong Houston’s commitment is to helping refugee youth thrive.”
The tournament’s success reinforced why events like the Community Cup matter so deeply. They bring together people from different backgrounds, create mentorship moments for young players, and raise vital funds and awareness for Amaanah’s programs in education, sports, and community support.
For Big Tex the event was an opportunity not just to sponsor, but to stand alongside a cause they believe in. “Organizations like Amaanah help to strengthen the entire community,” said Mohammad Abdel-Rahman, Partner at Big Tex Injury Law. “We are proud to be part of an event that brings people together, creates opportunities for young refugees, and shows what Houston can accomplish when everyone plays their part.”

As the final whistle blew and Big Tex lifted the trophy, the true victory belonged to the community. The tournament showcased teamwork, joy, and the collective belief that every young person, no matter their background, deserves a chance to play, grow, and succeed.
With momentum stronger than ever, Amaanah is already looking ahead to next year’s Community Cup, building on a tradition that continues to unite Houston through soccer.
