Lions to play in HFA Premier Division

The Amaanah Lions are stepping onto an even bigger stage this year. Our A Team has officially joined the Houston Football Association (HFA) Premier League, marking an exciting new era for the program and the communities we represent.

This milestone reflects years of growth, commitment, and teamwork, both on and off the field. What began as a community initiative to give young refugees and immigrants a place to play, belong, and thrive has now evolved into a team competing at the highest amateur level in Houston.

The Houston Football Association, founded in 1964, is one of the oldest and most competitive adult amateur soccer leagues in Texas. Over the decades, it has been home to some of the region’s most talented players and community-driven clubs. The HFA Premier League, its top division, demands high technical skill, tactical understanding, and consistency, the kind of standard that pushes teams to grow in every sense.

For the Amaanah Lions, this move into the Premier League is more than just a promotion, it’s a statement of intent. It shows that our players, many of whom came to the United States as refugees or first-generation immigrants, can compete with the best that Houston soccer has to offer. It also signals that the Amaanah Lions are becoming a recognized name in the city’s vibrant soccer community, bringing purpose and pride to every match we play.

Since its founding, the Amaanah Lions program has stood for inclusion, resilience, and opportunity. The team provides more than just a sporting outlet, it offers mentorship, belonging, and personal growth for young men rebuilding their lives in a new country. Competing in the HFA Premier League now allows the program to extend that mission even further, demonstrating that excellence and community spirit can coexist at the highest level.

Amine Amrouni, Head Coach of the Amaanah Lions A Team, shared his excitement about the season ahead:

“We’re thrilled to join the HFA Premier League. It’s an incredible challenge and a huge step forward for our players and the whole Amaanah family. We want to give the community we serve something to be proud of and something to push for. This is about proving that talent, hard work, and belief can take you anywhere.”

The 2025 season will be one of hard work, growth, and opportunity. Competing in the Premier League will test the Lions every week, but it will also provide an inspiring platform for players to showcase their skill and for fans to rally behind something that truly represents community strength.
