Next week, the Lions will have a very special guest for training at Bayland Park, with a visit from Little Amal. This 12-foot-tall puppet, representing a young Syrian refugee girl, has captured hearts worldwide through her ongoing journey to advocate for the rights and well-being of displaced individuals.

Little Amal embarked on a journey, known as "The Walk," which was a project aimed at raising awareness about the plight of refugees. The Walk was a 8,000-kilometer-long journey that began in Turkey and ended in the United Kingdom. During this journey, Little Amal visited various communities and engaged in activities to foster empathy and understanding for the experiences of refugees worldwide. This artistic endeavor sought to use storytelling and performance art to address the global refugee crisis and promote solidarity with displaced individuals. She is currently on tour across the USA.
"We're thrilled to welcome Little Amal," says Richard Spragg, a member of Amaanah's Board of Directors.
"She is a remarkable reminder of the ongoing experiences of 100 million displaced people around the world, and projects like this can offer new ways to promote understanding of the refugee experience. She is also a reminder that 40% of the world's refugees are children."
Lions head Coach Amine Amrouni has spent nine years alongside a team of volunteer coaches building the Lions into a competitive soccer team for young refugees in Houston.
"We hope that our friends and partners will find time to join us next week and share in this experience," he said.
Join the Lions, and Little Amal, at Bayland Park on October 19th at 3.30pm.
